Child safeguarding policy
The responsibilities and boundaries that help keep child learners safe during online lessons.
Our approach
Every child has the right to learn in a safe, respectful environment. eMakatib uses adult-managed accounts, teacher review, limited lesson-room access, and clear conduct rules to reduce risk. Safety concerns take priority over bookings, payments, and profile status.
Adult-managed accounts
Only an adult aged 18 or over may create an account, add a child learner, make a payment, or contact a teacher about that child. The adult confirms that they are the parent, legal guardian, or have lawful authority to arrange the lessons.
Children must not share the adult’s account credentials or manage payments and bookings independently.
Parent and guardian responsibilities
- Use the child’s first name or a suitable display name instead of a full legal name.
- Choose an appropriate shared or open learning space.
- Make sure the child knows how to leave the room and call the adult.
- Remain nearby and available during every child lesson. For a younger child, stay in the room or within sight and hearing.
- Review any material that the teacher asks the child to use.
- Report any uncomfortable, secretive, discriminatory, or inappropriate interaction promptly.
Teacher responsibilities
- Use only the scheduled eMakatib lesson room and approved account information.
- Keep language, clothing, background, material, and teaching conduct appropriate.
- Do not ask a child for a phone number, private email, social account, home address, school, identity document, photograph, gift, or secret.
- Do not arrange private meetings, off-platform lessons, payments, or communication with a child.
- Do not use sexual, romantic, threatening, humiliating, discriminatory, or manipulative language or conduct.
- End the lesson and report the matter if a serious safety concern arises.
Communication boundaries
Communication about a child must go through the adult account holder and the eMakatib service where available. A teacher must not continue a private conversation with a child outside the scheduled lesson. Necessary scheduling or learning messages must include the parent or guardian.
Cameras and recording
Use of the camera should support the lesson and remain appropriate to the learner’s age and circumstances. A parent or guardian can stay visible or join the lesson at any time.
eMakatib does not record lessons by default. Teachers, learners, and adults must not take screenshots, record, stream, or publish a child’s lesson without the parent or guardian’s clear consent and any other consent required by law.
Teacher review
Teachers complete an application before they can appear publicly. eMakatib may review identity or qualification evidence and can approve, decline, hide, or suspend a profile. Verification reduces risk but cannot guarantee a person’s future conduct. Parents and guardians should remain involved.
Report a concern
If anyone is in immediate danger, leave the lesson and contact the local emergency service or child-protection authority first.
For an eMakatib concern, email hello@emakatib.com or use the Help page. Include the booking number, date, people involved, and a factual description. Do not investigate the child yourself or ask the child to repeat the account unnecessarily.
How we respond
We can preserve relevant service records, restrict lesson-room access, pause bookings, hide a profile, suspend an account, contact the adult account holder, and request more information. We may report a matter to a payment provider, platform provider, child-protection body, or law-enforcement authority when needed to protect someone or comply with law.
Privacy and records
Share safeguarding information only with people who need it to protect the child, review the concern, or meet a legal duty. We limit access to reports and retain them only as long as needed for safety, disputes, and legal requirements. See the Privacy policy.
Policy breaches
A breach can lead to a warning, lesson cancellation, refund review, profile removal, account suspension, permanent removal, or referral to an appropriate authority. eMakatib may act before completing a review when an immediate restriction is needed for safety.
